Faith in Action
Serve Alexandria With Us
At Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, we believe faith becomes real when it is lived out in love, generosity, and service.
For years, Resurrection has partnered with neighbors, nonprofits, and local organizations to meet real needs across Alexandria, especially in the West End. From feeding families, diaper drives, and supporting affordable housing to mentoring children and caring for community spaces, we believe we are called to make a difference.
If you are looking for meaningful volunteer opportunities, a church actively engaged in Alexandria, or a place where your time and gifts can matter, we would love to welcome you.

West End Food Pantry
"I see Jesus in every guest we serve because he said, 'Feed the hungry and help the needy.' That’s what we’re trying to do."
About the Pantry
For more than two decades, Resurrection has supported feeding programs across Alexandria through partnerships grounded in dignity, hospitality, and community care.
The West End Food Pantry provides groceries and fresh food to West Alexandria residents each week and remains one of the few evening food pantries in the city, helping working individuals and families access food outside traditional business hours.
Founded by Church of the Resurrection and Hunger Free Alexandria, the pantry is now a collaborative ministry shared by St. Joseph Catholic Church, First Christian Church of Alexandria, Fairlington Presbyterian Church, and St. James United Methodist Church.
Together, these churches staff the pantry, welcome neighbors, and help distribute fresh produce, canned goods, bread, proteins, and shelf-stable essentials each week. Resurrection also helps lead the ministry by purchasing food, preparing grocery bags, and stocking pantry shelves for weekly distribution.

Affordable Housing
Resurrection made the bold decision to reimagine church property for greater community impact.
Today, The Spire, located on church grounds, provides 113 affordable housing apartments for West Alexandria residents.
We believe church property can serve both worship and the common good.

Housing Stability Program
Through the RISE program (Rent Initiative for Stability and Empowerment), Resurrection partners with Affordable Homes and Communities, to support families living in The Spire.
This initiative helps households facing housing burden through rent relief, financial coaching, and savings incentives designed to strengthen long-term stability.
By combining practical support with financial education, RISE helps families avoid crisis, remain housed, and grow toward greater independence.

Sharing Our Space With the Community
Resurrection believes church buildings are meant to serve both congregations and neighborhoods.
Our campus is home to community groups and partnerships that support connection, learning, worship, and civic life in Alexandria.
Resurrection sponsors Boy Scout Troop 2005 and Girl Scout Troop 60294 for local youth, welcomes New Life in Christ Church, an Ethiopian congregation serving the local community, for Sunday afternoon worship services, and serves as a polling place for the City of Alexandria during elections.
By sharing our space, we hope to strengthen community life and create places where neighbors can gather, grow, and belong.

Everyone Has Something to Offer
