Our Story:
We Lived Into Our Name
When Church of the Resurrection faced an uncertain future, we did not choose fear or retreat. We chose faith, generosity, and new life.
What followed was not only a building project. It was a season of prayer, courage, sacrifice, and renewal that continues to shape who we are today.
A Crossroads Moment
Several years ago, Resurrection faced difficult realities familiar to many churches: an aging facility, financial pressure, and important questions about the future.
Rather than rush to quick answers, the congregation entered a season of discernment. Together, members prayed, listened, asked hard questions, and considered what God might be calling this community to become in a changing world.

Choosing Courage
After prayerful discernment, the congregation overwhelmingly chose a bold path and committed part of its campus to create affordable housing for working families in West Alexandria, while also building a new church home designed for worship, fellowship, and future ministry.
It was not the easiest option. It was the faithful one.
“At the start, we were looking for a way to save the church financially, but we ended up saving ourselves by living into our name, Resurrection.”
A Season of Trust
During redevelopment, Resurrection worshiped in borrowed spaces for more than two years. This season also overlapped with the pandemic, requiring flexibility, perseverance, and trust.
Even without a permanent campus, the congregation remained committed to worship, prayer, and serving others.
Many in the parish speak of how their faith deepened during this time.

New Life on Our Campus

Our Worship Space
Our new worship space is warm, beautiful, and flexible, designed to support gatherings both large and small. It has received several architectural recognitions for its thoughtful design.

Memorial Garden
Our memorial garden is a peaceful place for prayer, remembrance, and quiet reflection. Many former parishioners are interred here, and their lives remain part of the continuing story of Resurrection.

The Spire
Opened in 2021, The Spire includes 113 affordable homes for working families in West Alexandria, extending hospitality beyond our church walls.

Still Living the Mission
The story did not end when construction was complete.
Resurrection continues to build relationships with neighbors through a monthly after-school club, holiday events for children, and practical support for families facing housing burden.
We believe church is not only a place to gather. It is a people called to love our neighbors in real and tangible ways.
Today, Resurrection is a living congregation still growing in faith, welcome, and hope.
Resurrection Today
We are a welcoming Episcopal congregation rooted in worship, Scripture, prayer, and community.
Some join us because they are searching for faith. Some because they are looking for belonging. Some because they are ready for a fresh start.
