Resurrection Children's Center
Preschool Philosophy
The mission of Resurrection Children’s Center is to provide the community with a model demonstration school that offers a caring, developmentally appropriate, family-centered preschool experience to young children. We believe in the uniqueness of every child. We encourage children to learn in their own way, at their own rate, through active experiences that promote social, emotional and cognitive growth. We value the richness that ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity bring to our class- rooms. We embrace the concept of including children with a wide variety of special needs or disabilities. We offer a supportive environment to our families at the Center.
The Program
The Center’s parent-cooperative program provides a dynamic and innovative early childhood education program for 45 children. Each class is conducted by 2 highly qualified teachers and a parent helper.
Teacher-Student Ratio
Each class is limited to 9 to 1 2 students. There is a ratio of 1 adult to 3 students in the youngest class and 1 adult to 4 in the older classes.
The High/Scope Preschool Curriculum
The framework for the program is the High/Scope Preschool Curriculum. This internationally acclaimed educational system views children as decision makers and active learners.
The Importance of Play
Children learn most naturally through play. Within the context of play, the curriculum emphasizes creative exploration, independent thinking, and decision making. Children spend at least 30 minutes each day outdoors on a well-equipped playground.
The learning environment at RCC offers variety in the fullest sense: in people, experiences, and materials.
The Staff
The preschool has a highly trained and caring staff that is skilled in assessment and individualized educational planning. Staff work closely with education consultants and families to formulate an educational program for each child.
On staff are both a speech language therapist and an occupational therapist who work with children who need additional services.
Parent Education and Involvement
In our cooperative preschool, all parents work in their child’s classroom on a rotating basis. This gives parents the opportunity to take an active role in their child’s first learning experience away from home. The Center also offers a supportive parent education program and parenting hotline.
Financial Assistance
A limited amount of financial assistance for tuition or therapy is available.
